EIC STEP Scale Up

The EIC (European Innovation Council) STEP (Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform) Scale Up is a funding instrument for empowering individual SMEs and small mid-caps to scale up breakthrough innovations built on strategic technologies. The objective is to enhance EU industrial competitiveness for a sustainable, competitive future. The support consists of an investment component only in the form of equity financing between EUR 10 - 30 million. Successful applicants have access to a range of Business Acceleration Services.

NB: as with other parts of the Horizon Europe work programme, some EIC STEP calls may restrict eligibility conditions in order to safeguard the EU's strategic assets, interests, autonomy or security and accordingly Swiss companies may be excluded.

The EIC STEP Scale-up instrument is limited to a number of strategic technologies:

  • Digital technologies, and deep tech innovations;
  • Clean and resource efficient technologies, including net-zero technologies; 
  • Biotechnologies, including medicinal products on Union list of critical medicines.
