2023 Swiss Research and Innovation – A Year of Déjà Vu and Determination
Déjà vu is the feeling of having lived through the present situation before. It is therefore clear why this feeling sums up 2023 from the perspective of Swiss research and innovation in Horizon Europe. We are reliving the unstable situation that we experienced in 2021 and again in 2022. Switzerland's non-association to Horizon Europe has limited our ability to participate in funding opportunities and to help shape its strategic planning.
Despite the difficulties, our resilient research and innovation communities have made the best of the situation. They have continued to apply for Horizon Europe funding, played an important role in orchestrating the scientific and technical aspects of the projects, and maintained a strong link with their European partners. In so doing, Swiss organisations have demonstrated that they can remain successful in applying for EU funding. Euresearch saw this as an opportunity to film various success stories in 2023. We supported these communities throughout the year with information events, training and advice at all stages of the application process – from basic idea to proposal preparation.
We at Euresearch also have the feeling of déjà vu every time we have to remind people that “yes, Switzerland can participate in Horizon Europe” and that funding is guaranteed by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation. To repeat it here once again: Yes, we can! Do not miss out on Horizon Europe projects and collaboration opportunities. Have a look at our special webpage on the status of Switzerland in Horizon Europe for additional information.
