Missions
What are EU Missions? They are ambitious, bold goals to tackle issues that affect our daily lives.
Within the Clusters of Pillar II, Horizon Europe incorporates EU Missions to increase the effectiveness of funding by pursuing clearly defined targets with a concrete impact on citizen’s daily lives. Citizens’ engagement is a key element for the EU Missions. The aim is to achieve bold, inspirational and measurable goals within a set timeframe.
The 5 defined EU Missions are:
- Adaptation to Climate Change
- Cancer
- Restore our Ocean and Waters
- Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities
- A Soil Deal for Europe
They are co-designed with citizens, stakeholders, the European Parliament and Member States.
In September 2021 the EC officially launched the implementation plan for each mission. These explain in detail the objectives for the next 2 years. Further information on the 5 EU Missions can be found here.
